Theresa Gong Pottery & Porcelain

Monday, November 18th, 2019

Theresa Gong Pottery Theresa Gong Pottery specializes in wheel-thrown pottery and high-fired porcelain. Using commercial stains and a variety of carving and incising techniques, she etches designs through colored slips applied over a leather-soft clay body.

Her pottery is gorgeous while being durable and functional. Her simple honest forms become part of the familiar and comforting rituals of daily life. Theresa’s work is heirloom quality without the heirloom price. Come see all of her new work today at Birds & Beasley’s.

“I enjoy making functional pieces with simple honest forms that are part of the familiar and comforting rituals of daily life. My work centers around the rhythm of a single revolving wheel and focuses on endless patterns and natural themes.  Pottery is a way of life that has provided me a place of equilibrium and quiet introspection.” Theresa Gong.

Kirk Johnson: Bird House Artist

Sunday, November 17th, 2019

Kirk JohnsonA native Montanan, Kirk Johnson graduated from Montana State University with a degree in metalsmithing and jewelry-making. He began as a jewelry designer, but spent most of his career managing or owning businesses in Hawaii and Helena. He owned Point S Tire in Helena for over 30 years. When he retired, he turned his attention to making one-of-a-kind birdhouses from reclaimed wood and other treasures he collects on his frequent hikes. Each house tells a story about the land and the trees that grew on the prairies and mountains of Montana.

Check out our Video: Visit the Artist! We visited with master birdhouse maker, Kirk Johnson. A pillar of the Helena community. The birds and his collectors are lucky that after retirement, Kirk lets his artistic imagination take the wheel. Behold the creative genius of Kirk Johnson!
